The Let Down

“Oh I could ask you the same thing. For myself, at first they scared me. Later though I learned that I could help people. And do some real good. But being alone, I was alone for quite some time. I got hurt a lot but I also did a lot to. I met Serena and we hit it off almost immediately. We were always close friends unless we were kissing and making out. I managed to keep my identity a secret for a very long time but even still. My Uncle was killed and then, fairly recently my Aitn by an assassin that tried to kill Serena. I made a choice and could not save them both...I saved Serena because I was in love with her, “he admitted though it was difficult. He wasn’t certain if he was in love with her anymore.

Kitty listened to Peter and looked at him. She was enjoying getting to know Peter better. "I'm sure that Serena is extremely grateful to you for saving her life. I know it must have been very difficult for you. Have you ever been in love with anyone else, or has it only been Serena?"

Peter sighed and looked down at the floor. “I don’t think she is anymore. Serena is much like her parents. Because of who they are they have no problem using people for their own ends. I love them but I Also know them. Serena did not ask me to do it but in her own way she expected it. Once the road got difficult for her she took the path of least resistance to get what she wanted,” he said.

Kitty looked at Peter. "I'm sure that isn't true Peter. I know you are angry right now, but you shouldn't lock that onto your memories of Serena. You two have too much history and I have a feeling that eventually you will want those fond memories. You just need to give yourself time to heal."

“You’ve had years to heal Kit and yet the moment you saw Logan you struck him out of hatred even though he likely saved your life. I protected Serena. Risked my life for hers so many times and once I was difficult for her...She cast me aside,” he said. “I deserved more just like I deserve love...have you ever fallen in love Kit? Been so in tuned with someone you knew what they were thinking. What they wanted and Desired? I’ve experienced that,” he began then Reached up and lightly touched her face. “It is a wonderful feeling, that kind of closeness,” he said and smiled at her.

Kitty looked at Peter as he lightly touched the side of her face. Her eyes met his for a moment. "No, I've never fallen in love before. I hope to experience it sometime soon though," she admitted. After Peter removed his hand she looked at him again. "I've spent years with anger that I thought was towards Logan bottled up inside of me. Instead of being able to heal from the pain of my sister's death I only made that pain worse and that was my doing...not his. I'm only just now realizing this and realizing how different my life could have been these past few years if I had just let go of that anger. I'm not telling you to forgive Serena right now...but just know that the longer you hold onto that pain the worse it's going to get."

It was almost 1oclock already and they had been talking as they soaked in the hot tub. Peter moved up to her and seemed like he was going in for a kiss. However he reached past her on the edge of hot tub and retrieved his yeti cup. He opened it and took a long drink. “It’s getting hot in here,” he said as he grinned innocently. He turned so he was right beside her and his face took on that innocent boyish look. He set his drink down and held himself up with just his arms as he kicked his legs. The tub jets bubbled the water around them.

“If I asked you to stay, would you Kit? I mean as my guest,?” He made sure to say. “I...I like being around you. I feel as if I can talk to you without having to second guess what I say,” he said honestly.

Kitty felt her breath catch in her chest when Peter suddenly moved closer to her. She thought he was going to kiss her as he leaned in towards her, but then he reached past her over the edge of the tub to grab his cup. She breathed out and actually felt a pang of disappointment in her heart. However, Peter had just found out that the woman he loved was marrying another man in three days. She didn't know how long it would take for his heart to heal...or even if he liked her in that way.

When Peter asked her if she would stay she was quiet a moment as she considered it. "If you would like for me to stay then I will stay. Perhaps I could even join the team...I mean if they think I could be helpful."

They had to Ofcourse get out of the hot tub and after they showered and dressed they both found that they were hungry again. Peter took Kit to Rocco’s his favorite place for burgers, fries and Malts.

Peter talked to her about their troubles with Hydra and the SSB and how Serena was the target of an assassin. Peter recommended the double slider burgers with the loaded tots and a butterfinger malt, all his favorites.

“Logan has told me about you alone in the mansion. There was some kind of phantasm hinting you and you went to the danger room and took off all of the safety features. The room killed the phantasm and you escaped though you were injured. Being alone like that,” he began then interlaced the fingers of his right hand with those of her left. “Was my existence for a long time Kit. If I learned anything about everything that happened is that I don’t want to be alone,” he said as he looked at her.

Kitty was quite hungry by the time they got to Rocco's. She had heard Peter talk about this place, but had never been there before today. Everything sounded wonderful and she took Peter's suggestion for what to have. As they sat there and waited for their order to arrive Peter began to tell her about the story Logan had told him about her killing the phantasm in the mansion. She suddenly felt him take her hand into his own and lace his fingers through hers. Her eyes met his when he told her that he didn't want to be alone.

"I don't want to be alone either."
