Just Another Mission

Kate slowly became aware of a voice that seemed to be speaking near her. She wasn't sure at first if the person was talking to her or not, but the voice sounded...familiar. It brought her a strange feeling of comfort and love. Ever so slowly Kate's eyes opened and she found herself looking up into the face of the man she loved. Tears immediately came to her eyes. She hadn't seen Steve since they had broken up and she had left the team almost six months ago. However, her love for him had never faded. He was everything to her and not being with him was like losing a piece of herself. She had told herself that with time those feelings would fade, but looking up at him now she realized that those feelings had not faded at all...in fact they had only gotten stronger.

"Steve?"

Steve was there holding her hand and her saying his name made a wave of relief and hope flow through him. He hadn’t seen her for what felt like a lifetime. And in that time there were several moments when he wanted to call her, talk to her or just see her to make certain she was alright. But he resisted those urges and only now realized how truly foolish he really was. He kissed her hand. “I’m here Kate,” He said as he kissed her hand again. “I’m here,” He said again.

Tears came to Kate’s eyes and then began to fall down her cheeks as the memory of what she had done returned to her mind. While she now knew that she had been under mind control by Dr. Doom she still knew that she had done terrible things.

“I didn’t want to do those things.”
