Biography:
Sofia was a surprise pregnancy for her young parents, who had gotten married right before he had left to serve as an Engineer on the USS Lakota. When Sofia was 8 years old, her mother was diagnosed with an incurable disease and she died only a few months later. Sofia was placed with her father’s brother and wife, who took care of her for the next two years. 

When Sofia was 10, her father, who was now Chief Engineer, was badly injured while working on some repairs and was forced to retire early. He took Sofia back into his care, but the two of them were pretty much strangers. However, Sofia took an interest in engineering and the two of them bonded over their love of building and fixing things. By the time Sofia entered Starfleet, she had learned quite a bit from her father…enough to impress Montgomery Scott, the USS Enterprise’s Chief Engineer. Sofia was hired on to the crew of the Enterprise for their 5 year mission.
