Deceptions and Plots in the Dark - Page 2 Empty Re: Deceptions and Plots in the Dark

Galara watched Aedael closely as he handed her the letter. As he did, she felt two of his fingers lightly brush her skin. In that moment a sense of peace and calm came over her. She visibly relaxed and her eyes softened. Carefully, she unfolded the letter and looked at the handwriting, without trying to read the contents of the letter. She would never want to betray her Queen's trust if it could be helped. The handwriting was elegant and had the distinctive traits of Queen Verya. Galara could now be certain that the letter was authentic. In the process of examining the letter she had seen who it had been addressed to and the nature of the letter was thus revealed to her. However, she said nothing as she refolded the letter. She did not return it to Aedael, but kept it in her hands.

"I believe this letter to be authentic and thus believe that you found it where the attack happened. You have not lied to me thus far and so I will take you to the palace. But it can only be you Aedael...I cannot allow your soldiers to accompany you. I will be taking a big enough risk allowing you inside. The Queen will also never be left alone with you. Oh...and you shall be blindfolded on your way to the palace...for security reasons. Do you agree to these terms?"

Aedael looked at her with his blue eyes. For a moment, a brief moment he thought about attacking her. The entire combat he laid out in his mind as to how it would go. He’d lose 2 of his men and a 3rd would be wounded. Galara would be wounded or dead and he’d still need a guide to get him to the city. The moment stretched out in real time and Aedael made a gesture to his men. A small, flick on two fingers and they unknocked their bows then began to step away from them back down the path. He reached out his hand.

“I’ll agree to your terms if you return the letter to me and allow me to keep my weapon. I will not draw my weapon unless I am provoked to do so Galara. So it is said, so shall it be so,” he added respectfully and gave her a slight decline of his head to show her she was in charge now. Yet he still held out his hand to her for the letter. He did this for 2 reasons. One was he felt she’d keep the letter which meant he’d be giving up something. For her to allow him to keep his weapon would be her concession to him.

Galara began to tense up as Aedael raised his hand. Immediately she began to prepare herself to fight. In half a heartbeat her men had their bows ready to fire. However, instead of giving a signal to attack them, Aedael seemed to give a signal for his men to relax. Galara slowly did the same and put away her own weapon. She listened to his demands and looked at his outstretched hand. At first she thought to deny him both, but he was agreeing to her demands. He had found the letter after all and as long as it was returned to the Queen then she did not mind him carrying it. As for being allowed to carry his weapon, he would be outnumbered without his men and she felt it unfair to take it from him. He had not yet given her any reason to disbelieve or not trust him. Slowly she removed the folded letter from her belt.

"As long as you return the letter to the Queen you may carry it," she told him as she carefully handed it over to him. "As for your weapon, you have given me no reason yet not to trust you so you shall be allowed to carry it. However, know this...if you plan on harming Queen Verya I shall not hesitate to kill you."

“A shame, I’d very much like another dance, someday,” he said and offered her a grin as he pocketed the letter…

He allowed them to blindfold him and they bound his wrists in front of him. He hadn’t agreed to that but decided to let it go. He didn’t like being chivvied much though by the taller one that had been up in the trees. He didn’t appear to like him much and Galara had warned him twice to stop it until she just slipped a length of silk rope into his hand for him to hold onto and she led him personally. When she did that her men fanned out forward and behind them which gave them time to talk further.

“I admire your loyalty but you can see how this looks. When was the last time you heard about a worm attack? And I saw Dark elf blood on the leaves,” he said softly, only loud enough for her to hear. “Already my men are relaying to my people what we’ve found. Are you working with the Dark Elves?” he said plainly then felt her stop and heard her clothes rustle as if she turned to face him. He saw nothing though only sensed it all.

Galara stood and watched as her men blindfolded Aedael and bound his wrists in front of him. After he was secure and she sent one of her men to escort his soldiers out of their forest, ensuring they wouldn't follow them. They then began to walk deeper into the forest. Her men clearly did not trust Aedael and she had to scold them several times before she finally decided to lead Aedael herself using a silk rope. Her soldiers fanned out, leaving her alone with Aedael. As he began to speak she glanced back at him slightly. However, when he outright asked her if the Wood Elves were working with the Dark Elves she stopped dead in her tracks, causing Aedael to run into her. She yanked off his blindfold so he could see her eyes and know she was telling the truth.

"No, we are not. We despise the Dark Elves. They are nasty, foul creatures who should not be walking upon this earth. Queen Verya would never lower herself that much to work with those horrible beings. Our Queen is good hearted and cares about her people. How dare you even think that she would do such a thing!"
